WCBA's Class of 2026 took home the 4th Grade gold title at the USBA North Carolina State Championship in Raleigh over the weekend.
The state championship was straight bracket play with no pool play, so the team had to win every game it played to win the championship.
Game one was an overtime thriller. The team got some big stops on defense in overtime, which led to big buckets on the other end. WCBA defeated Grind Academy, 44-38, in overtime to advance in the first round.
WCBA met Team FLY in the second round. After a close first half, WCBA pulled away to beat Team FLY, 52-36.
Garner Road was the opponent in the championship game. WCBA never trailed in the game as it cruised to a 41-27 win over Garner Road to win the state championship.
"Our squad played tough and tenacious with a ton of grit to beat some really good competition," said head coach Jason Fitzgerald. "We had big contributions from all nine players on the roster through the weekend."
The teams WCBA 4th Blue defeated in the tournament finished second, third and fifth.
