WCBA 9th Blue opened the April live period with a silver championship at Big Shots Atlanta on Apr. 21-22.
The weekend started with a tough 70-61 loss to Team Xplosion, which moved WCBA into the silver bracket.
There were some impressive performances in the loss to Team Xplosion though. Jalen Rochelle of Heritage High School scored 16 points in the game, a season-high for the 5-foot-10 guard. Rochelle is averaging 7.1 points per game for WCBA after back-to-back games in double-figures in Atlanta.
WCBA also got 12 points from Scott Martin in the loss. Martin is a 6-foot-3 guard at Leesville Road who is averaging 8.4 points per game this season for WCBA.
The second game of the weekend was slated to be played against the Jackson Pride, but WCBA won by forfeit due to a NCAA certification issue.
The forfeit put WCBA in the silver championship where it faced Big Shots Elite Atlanta and WCBA won in convincing fashion, 70-32.
Colby Lynam, a 6-foot-3 forward from Franklin Academy, led the team in scoring in the championship game, scoring 13 points on six made field goals. 6-foot-5 center Jayvon Mercer of East Wake High School added 11 points and Rochelle scored 10 points.
WCBA 9th Blue will return to action for the second live period weekend, Apr. 27-29, at the Phenom Grassroots Tournament of Champions in Greensboro.
