4th Blue wins gold, HS teams have solid showings at Big Shots Winston-Salem

WCBA 4th Blue took home the gold championship at the Big Shots Winston-Salem tournament over the weekend, beating Team Felton in the championship game.

In the opening pool play game, WCBA defeated Team Felton 33-19, led by Wyatt West's seven points. Marcus Green and Will Migdal each scored five points for WCBA.

WCBA Blue fell to Ambitious Ballers in the second pool play game, but rebounded in bracket play to win the championship.

11th Blue goes 2-1

WCBA 11th Blue had a strong showing in its second tournament of the season, going 2-1 at Big Shots Winston-Salem.

The team opened the tournament with a 69-58 win over Tristars. Four players were in double-figures, led by Jet Fortuny's 15 points. Andrew Carroll and Phillip Burwell both scored 12 points, and Bradley Barnes scored 11 points.

WCBA Blue tripped up in the second round, losing a close game to TLBA, 77-73. Marcus Metcalf led the team in scoring with 18 points in the loss. Fortuny and Burwell each hit a trio of three-point baskets -- Fortuny finished with 17 points, Burwell with 16. Dyson Pender added 14 points for WCBA.

In the championship consolation game, WCBA Blue defeated Team FLY in the final game of the tournament, 51-39. Metcalf led the team again with 20 points. He was the only player in double-figures, but Fortuny scored eight points, Carroll scored six points and Barnes added five points.

WCBA 11th Blue will open the live period Apr. 20-22 at the Phenom Challenge in Spartanburg, S.C.

10th Blue falls in semifinals

WCBA 10th Blue put together a strong performance at Big Shots Winston-Salem, dropping the gold semifinal game to Team Winston, 79-66.

WCBA Blue won the opening game against Team Major Select, 69-53, then followed it up with an 81-72 win over Team Felton.

Five players scored in double-figures against Team Felton. David Butners scored 17 points to lead the team, Michael Boney added 13 points, Khalil Marshall scored 11 points, and Tyler Gill and Sean Hickman each added 10 points.

The semifinal game was close throughout. WCBA trailed Team Winston by two points at halftime, but then went cold from the field in the second half, losing 79-66.

Gill scored 20 points in the semifinal to lead WCBA Blue. Marshall added 15 points -- including four three-pointers -- and Adam Carey scored 11 points.

Gill finished the tournament as the second leading scorer in the 10th grade division, averaging 15 points per game.

WCBA 10th Blue will play in the Phenom Challenge tournament in Spartanburg, S.C., Apr. 20-22 to begin the NCAA Live Period.

How other teams fared

WCBA 10th White also played in the Big Shots Winston-Salem tournament, going 0-3 against two Team Felton teams and NC Heat.

Aaron Zemonek led WCBA 10th White in its first game with 15 points in a loss to Team Felton. Henry Richardson was the leading scorer in the loss against NC Heat with 10 points, and Alex Nunnally led the team with nine points in the third loss to Team Felton.

WCBA 6th Lakins also lost three tough games in the Winston-Salem tournament. Marr Lakins led the team in scoring in the first game against Attack with 11 points, including a pair of three-point baskets. Elliott Stevens had an 11-point performance against Team Felton in the final game of the tournament.
