WCBA teams were in action this weekend in the Triangle and the Triad, and two teams brought home hardware.

The 5th Grade White team won the championship at the Team Carolina March Madness tournament in Raleigh & Durham this weekend, posting a 4-0 record on the weekend and beating Orange County Thunder in the championship game.

Defense was key all weekend for 5th White. The team held Team Carolina Savage to just six points in the tournament opener on Saturday morning, claiming an impressive 57-6 win. Later that day, the team followed up the performance with a 52-20 win over Orange County Thunder.

Championship Sunday was just as kind to 5th White as it defeated Team Carolina Hooks, 52-18, leading it into the championship game against the Thunder.

5th Blue finishes second at big shots

In Greensboro this weekend, the 5th Grade Blue team, which spent time as the No. 1 Class of 2025 team on the Big Shots Circuit last season, finished second in the Big Shots Next Generation Team Felton tournament.

The team opened the weekend with a strong performance in pool play. Team Felton Triad Hornets was the first team WCBA 5th Blue defeated, 66-27. In the next pool play game, WCBA Blue defeated RDC Lakers, 62-20. Web Brogdon scored 20 points in the game to lead WCBA Blue, but a total of 10 players scored in the game.

Bracket play began on Sunday with a match-up with another Team Felton team. WCBA Blue was able to hold off Team Felton, advancing to the championship game with a 51-47 win. Gordie Balas led WCBA in scoring with 14 points.

A basket with just seconds remaining is what downed WCBA Blue in the championship game, as Wilson Elite picked up the 46-44 win. Aiden Smalls scored 20 points in the championship game for WCBA.
