UNC invited the 5th grade team to play at halftime

Members of the WCBA 5th grade teams gathered at the Dean Dome on Wednesday night to take part in a scrimmage at halftime of the UNC basketball game with Western Carolina.

"It was the first time they let anyone play at halftime," said WCBA 5th Grade Blue coach Brad Deifer. "It was a blast for the kids."

The WCBA team, which was ranked the No. 1 team in the nation in the Big Shots Class of 2025 rankings last season, was invited to play at halftime by UNC. 17 players and 63 of their family members and friends were able to watch the Tar Heels play.

"The kids had a great time, represented WCBA amazingly and played really well," Deifer said. "Lots of assists and threes, no turnovers. The crowd was really, really loud and into it."

Deifer said the players moved the ball and most kids got shots. Almost every player scored.

"I couldn't be prouder of the way we played and acted," said Deifer. "It was great and a lifetime memory, especially for the kids who are Heels fans."

WCBA's Class of 2025 will hold its final tryout on Sunday, Dec. 10, from 4-5:30 PM at Trinity Academy of Raleigh.
