We encourage you to register for the Rec league as well so if you don't make a Travel team you will be in the Rec league. Only 8-10 kids will make a Travel Team
Difference between Travel and Rec Ball
We get asked all the time which level a player should play in and there are a lot of variables.
Rec league
Rec league is great for kids that just want to play more than one sport or for families that have multiple kids with multiple schedules and just want to stay active and play and not have all the pressure of playing at higher levels. Teams are small and everyone is guaranteed a minimum of playing half the game. Cost and time commitment is way lower!
Travel Teams
Travel is for a few select kids that are dedicated basketball players looking for more practice, games and competition. Playing time is not guaranteed (there may be games a player doesn’t play at all or only a few minutes) and there is way more emphasis placed on winning and advancing through a tournament. It is a large time and financial commitment. There are all kinds of levels of “Travel Teams”. Some are no higher level than WCBA Rec league, but people love the idea of being on a “Travel Team”. Others are incredibly high level and come with all the pressures of that level. WCBA will offer 1-2 Travel teams at each grade level.
Travel expenses will vary based on age group and level. Younger teams will travel less than older teams. Just to give you all the pros and cons Travel tournaments are expensive and charge anywhere from $20-$25/person per day to attend so a family can spend a couple hundred dollars per weekend attending tournaments.
